No place puts you more in touch with nature and yourself than a stay in Northumberland. Just an hour outside of the Greater Toronto Area, this land of rolling hills is crisscrossed by lakes and streams to create a visitor's paradise in any season. Be pampered and de-stressed when you snuggle into an historical bed-and-breakfast getaway. Pop out of your home-away-from-home for delicious regional cuisine and a great theatrical show. Stretch out on a sandy beach and lose yourself in the waves that stretch endlessly along Lake Ontario – or cruise along the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Visit some of our key communities below and satisfy your passion for exploring the countryside and historical communities.

Brighton
Brighton retains the spirit of the area's early settlers, who established some of the finest apple orchards in Canada.  You'll see celebrations of this in the fall at Applefest. The town also features many 19th century architectural treasures and some great dining locations. One is among the top 100 places to eat in Canada, while two others are the only restaurants in Northumberland to overlook Lake Ontario at Presqu'ile Bay.
Cobourg

Cobourg offers a variety of shopping venues as well as a range of exciting annual festivals and events, from the popular Cobourg Waterfront Festival to garden tours, concerts and more. Visit the Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre and explore local heritage, or take a self-guided walking tour of local heritage properties.

Colborne
Within Cramahe, Colborne is a village sprinkled with vintage architecture and boasting the widest main street in Northumberland. Colourful murals grace the exterior walls of downtown buildings while Victoria Square, an attractive park gracing the centre of town, has a cannon and a gazebo under large shade trees. Take a walk through Colborne's history with their walking tour.
Grafton
Nestled amid gorgeous rolling countryside, Grafton is home to Ste. Anne's Spa, where you can luxuriate in a variety of relaxing treatments while enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. The village is also the focus of some lovely driving tours.
Port Hope
Nationally acclaimed for having the best-preserved main street in Ontario, Port Hope is well known for its wealth of lovingly restored 19th century homes, some of which have been transformed into exquisite bed and breakfast accommodations.
Rice Lake
Rice Lake is the ideal destination for anglers, nature lovers, hikers, water sports enthusiasts, cottagers or anyone looking for a place to escape and relax with beautiful surroundings in fresh air!
Trent Hills
Trent Hills offers country living with working farms, friendly people, outdoor adventures and some of the most picturesque rural landscapes in Ontario. Clear waters beckon you to come out and play – cast off to fish for the catch of the day, boat the Trent-Severn Waterway, take a driving tour, see a live performance at Westben or stroll through Ferris Provincial Park and make your way across the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge adjacent to the park.
