With rivers and lakes – large and small – Northumberland is the perfect angler's paradise.
We're home to walleye, crappie (panfish), bass, carp, muskie (muskellunge), trout, salmon and pike. With such variety, a day on the water should net you some great catches.
With Rice Lake to the north, Lake Ontario to the south, Ganaraska River to the west and the Trent River to the northeast, Northumberland County has a variety of options to spend the day on the water. Marinas and boat launches across the county allow you to access the water smoothly and easily.

Spring is prime trout-fishing season in our rivers with prime spots in Cobourg and Port Hope.
In the summer, explore Rice Lake from Golden Beach Resort or one of our marinas. Lake Ontario is also a great option with launches in Port Hope, Cobourg, Lakeport and Brighton. And we can’t forget the prime fishing in Hastings all summer. Hastings was voted Best Fishing Town in Canada by the World Fishing Network and you can enjoy it by boat or by casting off from the bridge over the Trent-Severn Waterway.
In the fall, the salmon begin to run upstream in their migration pattern. You can fish for them along the Ganaraska River, or just watch in amazement at the fish ladder - it’s amazing.
Rice Lake and Hastings are fantastic winter ice-fishing destinations. Check out our Ice Fishing page for more details and ideas to make your winter fishing experience successful.
