Take a relaxing drive around the County. Here are some wonderful roads to see Fall colours in Northumberland. They are also marked on our Google Map to help you get there.
A stunning array of colours can be spotted as you drive along Edwardson Rd. and Cranberry Lake Rd., just west of Hwy. 23 near Grafton.
See the brilliant Fall colours in Shelter Valley. Head to Vernonville for Pipeline Rd. views.
Travel along Massey Rd. and the surrounding area to find yourself in rolling hills country, north of Grafton and Ontario’s famous Ste. Anne’s Spa. You may also get some wonderful views of Lake Ontario.
Explore the Northumberland County Forest, one of our greatest treasures. Immerse yourself in some vibrant fall colours. One hiker says, “From the ground level you’ll see the trees aglow all around you.” With so many walking trails, there are routes for all levels and ambitions.
Telephone Rd. and County Rd. 21 run parallel to Hwy 401 but they feel like they're a world away from the heavy traffic. This location is ideal for rolling hills lined with fall colour, plus some good views of Lake Ontario.
Chapman Rd. heads north off Telephone Rd. (between Walker Rd. and Toffman Rd.). It provides some spectacular views due to its hilly nature. On parts of the road, the trees create a tunnel and the colours are amazing. Stop and get out. Take a walk. You’ll find lots of great places to take some photos.
Around Close Point Rd. you’ll see Fall colours with a backdrop of Rice Lake. (With a special view from our drone, you can see the islands blanketed in reds, oranges and yellows.)
From Warkworth, head south to Concession Rd. 2 and take the short loop back to Warkworth via Hwy. 29. This includes a drive by an elk and bison farm. (From Concession Rd. 2, you may see them grazing in the fields as you drive past.)
From Warkworth, you can also drive north on County Rd. 24 up to Dartford then north to Ward Rd., then follow Richardson Rd.
From Campbellford, head south on Hwy. 8, curve around the bend on the English Line, drive north on Devil Valley Rd. and then Loucks Rd. Take the 6th Line east to Burnbrae, then straight north on Wingfield Rd. Head west on Hwy. 38 past Petherick Corners and along the river until you’re back on Hwy. 8. This puts you on some back roads, but that’s where you will find yourself under beautiful leaf canopies.
