Need a bike rental? We've got you covered. A bike rental station is available July and August at the Cobourg Beach tourism kiosk. Each hybrid model or fun cruiser comes complete with a helmet and bike lock. Windswept's group of accommodations in Trent Hills offers bike rentals at their B&B's year round from mountain bikes to cruisers.
What about roadside assistance? There's peace of mind if you get a flat tire or broken chain. In Northumberland where cycling is key, CAA offers its members Bike Assist. This 24-hour, bike roadside assistance program includes transporting you and your bicycle if you need help.
Don't want to drive? Getting here is easy. Bike Train (VIA Rail) means you can put your bike on board VIA's baggage car. Take the daily Toronto to Montreal run (arrives eastbound Cobourg during the lunch hour) after a scenic hour-long train ride along the north shore of Lake Ontario. Once you arrive in Cobourg, the station master will remove your bike from the baggage car, right onto the platform in front of you, and you can begin your journey. You can take a short cycle down George Street to join up with the Greenbelt Route, Waterfront Trail, Rice Lake Ramble or Shelter Valley cycling loops - all signed for your convenience.
Don't have time to plan ahead? Cycling Seniors is a new company based in Cobourg and has day trips planned from May to September on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail throughout Northumberland.
Howard Pulver at Bike On Tours will take care of all of the details for you. Luggage transfer and pick up service is all part of what he can pull together for your cycling trip. You can also visit Ontario By Bike, of which Northumberland County is a founding member, to be connected to certified bicycle-friendly accommodations, places to eat, attractions and businesses in Ontario.
