A Super Sweet Way to Spend the Day
Looking for a group tour that satisfies all the sweet cravings, all while touring through the lovely rolling hills of Northumberland County? This itinerary has it all with candied treats and chocolate galore and can be taken any time of the year. Call ahead to each location for group visits.
Day One
Times are suggestions only.
- 10 am – Arrive in Cobourg and book into the Best Western. Call ahead to reserve at 1-866-262-6874.
- 11 am – Snack at Arthur's Pub at the Best Western.
- 11:30 am – Take County Rd 45 north to County Rd 22. Go East on County Rd. 22 to Castleton. Turn left (east) on County Rd 25 towards Warkworth.
- 12:00 pm – Visit Centre and Main Chocolates in Warkworth. This is a small retail shop. Consider splitting large groups with half spending time shopping on the main street.
- 1:30 pm – Stop for lunch at The Big Apple in Colborne. This popular tourist stop features a bright, clean, cafeteria-style restaurant, a bakery, a huge gift shop, and a 30 foot apple with stairs to climb inside. Contact at 905 355-2574.
- 2:30 pm – Head south on County Rd 25 into the community of Colborne and then continue south to County Rd 31 into Lakeport. Take a beautiful drive along Lakeport Road, part of the Waterfront Trail, to capture lovely views of Lake Ontario. If you need a quicker route back to Cobourg, you can choose to get onto County Rd 2 right at Colborne and head west.
- 3 pm – Stop into Grafton for a visit to the 1812 Heritage Building, which houses 3 quaint shops with books, cards, antiques and more.
- 4:30 pm – Back to the Best Western in Cobourg for a rest. Those wishing to venture out can easily walk for 10 mins to the Northumberland Mall or take a leisurely walk through the Cobourg Conservation Area.
- 6 pm – Enjoy dinner at the very popular Buttermilk Cafe for a good dose of comfort food. At Christmas time you can easily walk from this restaurant to the Christmas light display at Victoria Park.
Day Two

- 8 am – Check out of the Best Western hotel and have breakfast at Arthur's Pub.
- 9:15 am – Depart for Campbellford.
- 10 am – Visit the World's Finest Chocolate Outlet where you can enjoy purchasing seconds at low prices. 1-705-653-3590 x248
- 11:15 am – The Empire Cheese Outlet in Campbellford (705-653-3187) is next on the foodie stops. Call ahead and they may be able to have a tray of samples ready for your group.
- 12:30 pm – Fill up with lunch at Chubby's Restaurant (closed Jan/Feb) in Campbellford (1-888-727-4444). Chubby's, on the scenic Hoards River, is about 15 minutes down County Rd 8 from Empire Cheese. The restaurant features homemade food from soup to desserts. The roast beef will melt in your mouth. The owners will open the restaurant for lunch for a minimum of 35 people.
- 2 pm – A few options for the afternoon include making a stop at Ferris Park to take a short walk to the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge, shopping in Campbellford (Dooher's Bakery voted Canada's Sweetest Bakery), or leave for home.
