Shelter Valley Cycling Route

Posted on Sunday, August 04, 2019 09:44 PM

Outdoors

This loop offers a diverse cycling challenge; it’s low in vehicular traffic and high on being bicycle friendly. Further north the elevation brings you to new vistas and even through some dense forested areas.

Beginning eastbound out of Cobourg, you’re on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. At Lakeshore Road you’ll be taking in views of Lake Ontario beyond fields of apple blossoms or fruit-filled orchards, depending on the time of year you’re travelling.

Rice Lake Ramble Cycling Route

Posted on Sunday, July 07, 2019 04:46 PM

Outdoors

I can’t think of a nicer time of the year to enjoy nature’s changing colours than on a bike in October. Sunny, temperature of 13, moderate winds – but oh the hills! I’m in my senior year, so I take the hills slowly and don’t let them intimidate me.

This route begins at Lake Ontario with views of Rice Lake halfway along. Starting from the municipal parking lot on Albert Street (between Second Street and Division Street) in Cobourg, I headed east on County Road 2 to Brookside Road. Signs for the Ramble...

Presqu'ile Promise Cycling Route

Outdoors

For our annual Mother & Daughter bike ride we chose this looped route and found that combining cycling with walking this delightful route created some of our fondest memories.

We started in the heritage Village of Grafton which has a nice café and some small shops. We enjoyed Orchard Grove Road aptly named because you’ll see apple blossoms in May or heavily-laden apples trees in the fall. This road to Lakeport Road was low in vehicle traffic, and had lots of places to stop, like pebbly Wicklow...

Canada Day Adventures

Culture Outdoors

Canada Day, July 1, is one of our favourite weekends of the summer. It's the first holiday of the kids' summer break and it's a great way to celebrate the end of their school year.

Every year, we look forward to the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. My husband and I have been coming to the Festival since the 90s and even managed to work it into our wedding day - who wouldn't want wedding photos on the beach, with a clown and popcorn? The arts and crafts tents have grown significantly since we started...

Glorious Ganaraska Cycling Route

Posted on Wednesday, May 01, 2019 02:19 PM

Outdoors

This route encompasses the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail at Lake Ontario and forms a leg of the Greenbelt Route (Northumberland to Niagara) around the Sylvan Glen Conservation Area.

Mid-August nature is spectacular because in full bloom are Tansies, Dames Rocket, Chicory, Sumac, and Sunflowers. An early start brings shade from the mature trees along most of this route, and offers some lovely long shadows for dramatic photos.

Hills are rolling – some long and gradual as experienced...
