Grafton & Colborne
Nestled amid gorgeous rolling countryside, Grafton is home to Ste. Anne's Spa, where you can luxuriate in a variety of relaxing treatments while enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. The village is also the focus of some lovely driving tours.
You'll find several excellent antique shops in Grafton, and don't miss lunch at the beautifully renovated Grafton Village Inn, where a yummy pecan pie has become the choice dessert for many!
South of Grafton is the Nawautin Nature Sanctuary where a lovely trail winds its way through restored wetland habitat and over wooden foot-bridges to the shores of Lake Ontario. It's a great spot to watch for wildlife.
Just a short drive east of Grafton, Colborne is a tiny village sprinkled with vintage architecture and boasting the widest main street in Northumberland. Colourful murals grace the exterior walls of many buildings while Victoria Square, an attractive park gracing the centre of town, has its own cannon and a small playground under large shade trees.
Don't forget to visit the Colborne Art Gallery, housed in a refurbished 19th century registry office, where you'll see the works of a variety of local artists.
Apples are big business in the Colborne area, and if you visit during the spring you can take part in the community's annual Apple Blossom Tyme Festival. Or visit The Big Apple restaurant just off Highway 401 and sample one of their delicious fruit pies.
